UT wins $2 million science grant

The University of Texas won a $2 Million grant from the National Science Foundation and $500,000 from the Texas Education Agency to improve science and technology instruction in Texas public schools.The money, to be paid over the next five years, will support the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science Teaching, headquartered at UT's College of Education. The college administers more than $1.2 million annually to support 20 regional collaboratives around the state.

They involve university faculty, community college instructors and public school educators who provide training and support to science teachers. The collaboratives also form partnerships between educators and businesses committed to improving science education."Our overriding goal is empower the teachers of Texas to lead systemic reform in science education," said Kamil Jbeily, director of the collaboratives.
