The mission of the ESC-20 mathematics team is to build leadership capacity through long-term and intensive training with teacher leaders. Participants attend high quality, relevant training in concepts specifically correlated to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for mathematics.
Our main goal is to improve academic achievement of students in mathematics by providing high quality, sustained, and high intensity professional development focused on the education of mathematics teachers as a career-long process. The process is designed to strengthen teachers' knowledge and skills through activities that are founded on scientifically based research and aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics.
Our teachers, curriculum coordinators, and supervisors have received between 3 and 36 hours of training. Many of our teachers have attended multiple sessions, and are on their way to becoming mathematics leaders on their campuses.
Educators who attended TRC training this past year reported the following:
Good clarification activities of TEKS (number strand) and how they link and build through preK- 2.
As a new teacher-able to dig deeper into the meat of the TEKS, NOT just scratching the surface.
Knowing that a teacher does NOT have to teach the test especially if they put forth a little effort into the hands-on part of the lesson.
This was an eye-opener. It put math into a new perspective.
Let students build their knowledge at their own pace.
This type of training needs to be more wide-spread and started in college.
All of it was NEW to me and I go to a lot of Geometry workshops. The activities are useful and do make the connections.
I valued learning how to change problems to address different levels of bloom’s taxonomy.
Extremely useful information- I will stop just teaching algorithms and teach number sense."
It was fun, challenging, and left me wanting more!
